Part 2.a - Character Info (Non-WH13/Eureka) |
FULL NAME: Regulus Arcturus Black NICKNAMES: Reg, Reggie, brat DOB/AGE: 1961 | 16 BIRTHPLACE: St. Muggles, London GENDER: Male SEXUALTIY: Bisexual SPECIES: Human FANDOM: Harry Potter JOURNAL: ![]() PB: Joseph Gordon-Levitt CANON POINT: Regulus was 8 when he arrived in LoMB, and then he spent 8 years in that world. APPEARANCE: Regulus, like all Blacks, is ‘well bred’. His black hair and fair skin complement each other well and he smiles in a rather adorable way (fully equipped with dimples). However, it could be said that he is stuck in an awkward 'teen' phase that has more to do with his unassuming personality than his physical genetic predisposition; he has the potential to carry himself better, but he chooses not to. He's still shorter than average. His build is on the 'slight' end of things - very conducive to playing the position of Seeker on a quidditch team. Without someone to push him to perform the right Black-family act, his more natural personality has come out, which leaves him with out a learned self-possession. He looks and acts gawky much like the average teen, which he is quite alright with. HISTORY: Walburga Black was a most unkind woman. Orion Black, her husband, did not care so long as she directed her attentions on anything but him. Their arrangement worked fine for them; however, it wreaked havoc on their two sons, Sirius and Regulus. Regulus Black was born July 22nd, 1961 and, like his brother before him, was immediately placed in the care of the house elf, Kreacher, for looking after. Such was the (minimal) affection Walburga had for her children. For as long as the young Regulus could remember, he was attached to his brother. Sirius was loud, where Regulus was quiet; and where Sirius was brave and bold, Regulus was reserved and retiring. Naturally, Regulus thought Sirius, by virtue of being older and so much more outgoing, was wise and worthy of his admiration. And so, Regulus followed his brother’s lead during their youth before Hogwarts. When Sirius thought up wild and crazy things to do, Regulus would comply with his brother’s ideas and wishes with surprising alacrity and innovation. Their relationship, however, wasn't without problems. It was easy for anyone to see Walburga favored her youngest son. Sirius was much like a fire brand, burning hot always and ready to ignite; Regulus was passive and still, like water. Regulus found it unnecessary to fight against their parents, because the adults always won. If he and his brother were quiet things were over sooner than if they put up a fight. Perhaps it was because Regulus was just so much quieter than Sirius, and rebelled against Walburga’s strictures less that she favored Regulus more. That isn’t to say she didn’t abuse Regulus, too, but her treatment towards her youngest son was undeniably less severe than her treatment towards Sirius. Either way, Walburga was so apparent in this behavior the boys noticed, or rather, Sirius noticed. And this tended to pop up from time to time in the form of jealousy followed by arguments and fights. Though, the boys usually made up quickly, you needed an ally in that house. It was foolish to give that up for long. PREVIOUS GAME HISTORY: When Reg was 8 years old, he was taken to the Land of Make Believe, a world in an alternate dimention. What he found there was thoroughly shocking. There was already an older version of himself there, who happened to be nothing like how he thought he would be as an adult. He was quick the surprise for the older version as well. Thankfully, his brother was there as well. Both versions, actually - one Regulus' age, and an older version as well. It was a confusing time for Reg. He'd always looked up to his brother, they'd always had glorious adventures against the evil that was their mother. They had banded together and fought together and had helped each other overcome Walburga's nastiness. However, their older versions did not get along at all. In fact, they almost down right hated each other. Reg couldn't understand why. Because of this, and the way he'd seen the older version of his brother treat the older version of himself, Reg grew very mistrustful of the adults. He stuck very close to his 'right age' brother and the new friends he'd made in this new place. Eventually, he learned the truth about why the older versions didn't get along, and it made Reg very sad. He didn't like that future. And he wanted the older version of his brother and self to get along, but there didn't seem to be anything he could do to help. During this time, he and his 'right age' brother were looked after by their cousin Andromeda. After he'd been in this place a year, his bothers vanished. Both versions did. This was something that happened from time to time, people would just leave. Sometimes they came back, sometimes they didn't. Sirius would come back and disappear again, a few times, but Reg learned a very hard truth. Every time he did, Sirius was always older and never remembered being in the Land of Make Believe. More importantly, Sirius never remembered him. Or rather, this version of Reg. Sirius always remembered the version of his brother that had grown up with him - the one he no longer liked. The brother Sirius had gotten along with as a young boy was always forgotten. At some point, Reg gave up hoping for a version of his brother that got along with him would show up again. By the time he was 15, he took to avoiding Sirius whenever his brother would show up. He missed his brother and former best friend, but it was something he could never change. He saw the toll it took on his older self, and he decided he wouldn't let Sirius get to him anymore. Reg's upbringing in the Land of Make Believe was a far cry from what he would have had back on Earth in Number 12 Grimmauld Place. For one thing, his older self saw to it that Reg was never abused. His older self was far from an outwardly loving person, and rarely expressed anything but cool aloofness, but he saw to it that Reg had a safe, stable place to live. And Reg knew his older self cared for him - which was something he'd not experienced from an adult prior to coming to the Land of Make Believe. Walburga and Orion Black were never kind to him. His older self also taught Reg all the magic he knew. Though, Reg did prove to be an average student because he often paid attention to anything but his studies. But he did like to experiement with magic, especially in coming up with the best pranks (he never wanted to hurt anyone, mind, he just liked being creative). They often backfired on him, as did most of his antics, which was probably why his older self never really intervened. Reg's life was mostly uneventful outside the occassional strange occurance of the land - strange things had a tendency to happen at unpredicable intervals, and Reg weathered them like they were more natural than anything else. When he was 16 an alien girl named Ahsoka arrived. She was different from all the other kids Reg's age in more than just physical appearance. She'd been trained to be a Jedi, and was organized in all the ways Reg was not. But for some reason, she found his flights of fancy amusing (and maybe she wanted to see just how he would fail). But eventually, Reg realized he had developed feelings for her. Luckily for him, she'd developed feelings for him in return. Over Christmas break they'd decided to give dating a chance. Not many months after that, Reg found himself in a very new place. PERSONALITY: Growing up away from the noxious influence of his mother in a modern setting populated with all kinds of muggles and meta-abilities folks, Reg failed to develop into a bigoted brat he would have been famous for. Instead, he’s a mostly-adjusted, average male teenager (who happens to have some magical abilities). Reg is something on the quiet side. He doesn’t throw himself into the spotlight without a compelling reason (and no, he doesn’t consider ‘for attention’ a compelling reason). He doesn’t mind a crowd from time to time, and likes to participate in revelry when he’s with friends. But he prefers to be on the sidelines cheering his friends on or being the spectator. He is an introvert and when he needs to recharge he seeks solitude. In these moments he will go for a walk, take a broom out for a ride, or hole up in his room for a bit. He’s never gone for long, a few hours, maybe a day on his own and he’s back looking for his friends again. Making friends for him isn’t so difficult, he’s generally easy going. He likes to let others lead and doesn’t offer much objection to much. As long as it’s something he’s comfortable with. He is overly curious in the way cats are. On his own, he has no problem trying the things someone more extroverted would do in the middle of a crowd. However, his curiosity usually manifests in a quirky mixing of magic with mundane muggle objects. He just likes to see what would happen, or what he could get away with. This is him testing the boundaries of his world, his creativity, and his magical abilities, plus, filling in his desire for thrills and adventure. However, he’s still a typical teenager. He isn’t particularly studious, though he does have an aptitude for mathematics and subjects steeped in pattern repetition. He’s fine with putting in average effort and only getting back average marks. Sometimes he puts in effort and surprises everyone with observance, of which he is quite adept at; his quiet nature has its pluses. He doesn't panic over the little things, because he usally doesn't care When presented with a threat, Reg’s response is to freeze up at first. He doesn’t handle confrontation well. He doesn’t like yelling and doesn’t often do it himself, unless the situation is dire. Yelling reminds him too much of his life back in Grimmauld Place. However, if he survives the intial few seconds of a threat, he can usually kick into a flight response with enough mental fortitude to remember to help his friends along the way. His morals are surprisingly sound, however, and he won’t be comfortable with someone suggesting he go against them. He usually finds a non-violent way to not comply. Like when a petulant toddler goes limp when their parent tries to pick them up. He can be quiet annoying when he sets his mind to it (a show of his natural abilities he usually only gives average effort to). And he likes to be creative in his obnoxiousness. SPECIAL FACTS/SEPCIAL ABILITIES: Regulus is from one of the oldest wizarding families in England, so he has all the talent members of his family are known for. He has a good aptitude with transfiguration, arithmancy, runes, and wards. He's has no skill with potions. However, his skill is highly dependent on how much he applies himself. And, without an adult adding that pressure, he tends to act more like the typical teenager than the devoted student. WHAT IS ARRIVING WITH YOUR CHARACTER? Clothes on his back a backpack with: ~school books ~note books ~pens/pencils ~snacks ~a hand-held video game device (growing up in a muggle-rich world has deviated him from his family's bigoted roots) his wands |

1. First Person Writing Sample: Reg teaches Ahsoka about Santa Claus 2. Third Person Writing Sample: Reg hids from his brother 3. First Person: [A unfairly dimpled face can be seen on the screen. He doesn't look at the screen directly for very long. But when he looks off screen it's because he's clearly thinking.] So I tried a few spells on this steampunk iPhone. As I'm sure you can tell by my singed brows. And I have to admit, who's ever out there monitoring everything we're doing and saying, you've built a pretty durable antique vision phone... [Reg stops for a very long pause, pursing his lips.] Of course, my spells could have just been back firing. I'll have to try a few more times. [Reg's face turns serious.] But I'm onto you, people watching us. I'm on to you. |
